Production: Video Draft 2 and Class Feedback
Key feedback from the Year 12 Media Class:
- lip syncing could be more enunciated/pronounced better, reshoot so less blurry too, however some liked the blur.
- fewer dancing scenes at the end - break it up with more scenes of the band
- good use of colour schemes
- photo effect is cool, perhaps transition and develop them more. more shots of photobook.
- good use of text to make narrative clear
- great use of iconography

Planning: Statement of Intent
Statement of Intent
Pointers
Should benefit the students in thinking what precisely they intend the outcome to be.
outline how you demonstrated convergence. Explain how video needs to link to website. Go through brief in depth.
Links to streaming services at end of the video
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief (approx 400 words)
Music videos have been becoming increasingly popular, especially with my target audience of 16-24 year olds. This influenced me to create a music video which including themes that the demographic will possibly relate to.
To reflect Universal and the record label I intend for the music video and website to be aesthetically pleasing and to be used as a way to market the artist to the audience. In my research, I found that one of the most successful female music artists has a visually pleasing website and a clear branding across all of her products, both offline and online. there is a clear house style and colour palette.
My website will largely have a higher image to text ratio, inspired by minimalism, with eye catching images. It will be easy to navigate, with social media links to instagram, snapchat and pinterest etc at the bottom of each page. The images will be high quality to reflect the tech-savvy demographic I intend to target. By having a social media bar, I will accommodate for active audiences who like to 'speak back to producers,' as Clay Shirky said.
The music video will be put onto the website to advertise it. the 30secs footage will be an interview/behind the scenes of the music video. the artist will explain some of the ideas and talk about the production and provide the audience with some exclusive content connecting the products
My 30 sec video will be on the 2nd page
In order to demonstrate digital convergence I intend to promote the link to my website at the end of the music video, as well as having links to streaming services popular to my target demographic, including Spotify, Apple music.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
I intend to link my media products by using links and hashtags throughout the video outro and the online website, which allows the audience to actively engage by choice if they are interested in doing so. The website's additional content such as behind the scenes footage allows for the audience to be further entertained, and so allowing the remit of Universal? to be fulfilled

Looking at Examiners Report 2019
Cross media aspect. Need to show links between the two different products and need to both be on the same level and balanced. Each are worth the same level of marks, and need to compliment each other.
Need an excellent level of convergence and synergy across both products.
Statement of intent - refer back to the brief
Music videos - use same typeface and font across the products. mention website at end of video. call to action and interactivity. Encourage audience to give opinions and thoughts. Excited to tell story and issues within society. Best work filmed the artist performing the track in different mise-en-scenes. 2 social groups. Editing should meet the pace of the track.
Online products - consider real world examples of websites. Bespoke photography. Consistent branding.

Reviewing the Brief
Adjustments I need to make to fit the Brief:
- intertextuality (reference to indie culture/another band?)
- inclusion of another social group
- reinforce a clear sense of branding
- 30sec extra audio/visual made for the website (interview/behind the scenes)
- statement of intent
Planning: Fonts
Black Signature, used for the artist's name, across the website and in the music video. Attempt to create brand identity across all of the artist’s products
Coco Sharp, used alongside Black Signature on the website
Colour scheme of predominantly
Green, Purple/Lilac
and
white, blue

Pitch (draft) for Music Video
I want to create a music video for the song "Sofia" by Clairo, in order to address ongoing issues of homophobia and the negative effects of it on members of the LGBT community. The narrative would follow a young girl called Hazel (the artist) who has romantic feelings for this girl named Sofia, however they are unable to be together due to fear of judgement from others around them, like family, friends etc. This is highlighted through the lyrics that being together 'shouldn't feel like a crime'.
The video should act to highlight how lgbt teens should be able to express themselves freely. This video will target a 16-25 year old mass audience, from any class, as younger generations are usually more open to these ideas surrounding sexuality and social change.
The song is more upbeat and I am planning on the video to be more light and summery, whilst also portraying the issues. Planning on using projectors, ring lights, multiple locations. location ideas - cutaway scenes with character 'Sofia' in - natural summer setting leigh beach, parks etc. Summer adventures. Bright, breezy, dreamlike. Warm colour grading, saturated colour.
Performance scenes - projector/colourful lights in the dark. Narrator playing guitar and miming the lyrics.
I would like the intertextual reference to be recognisable to the audience, potentially a reference from an iconic teen movie (mean girls??)
Website
The accompanying website will feature elements of the music video and also encourage interactivity and participation from the audience, with social media links, easter eggs etc, whilst also acting as promotion for the artist.
Generic Research Summation
For generic research, I looked into codes and conventions of music videos and the artist's websites. I would like for there to be a clear logo, colour scheme, font used across all the media products I aim to create.
I will take a lot of shot inspiration from Olivia Rodrigo's Deja Vu music video because I love the use of mirrors and TV screens. The video is colourful and summery
